YOUR CLEARING QUESTIONS ANSWERED

What is clearing for?

Changed your mind about your course? Applying to university last minute? Did(n't do) very well in exams?

Even if your choices can't offer you a place due to your grades, clearing gives you a chance to get enrolled for a September start for another course. This is your chance to re-explore your options further than your first choice and insurance course options. It is also useful if you perform better than expected and exceed your required grades, or you have a change of heart from the course you've picked.

Clearing and adjustment for A-level students opens on Thursday, 17 August. Sign up now for the clearing and adjustment emails to get updates on 2017 courses and the clearing hotline.

What if I don't get the results I need?

First off don't panic, it's not the end of the world. Check your status in UCAS Track; you'll only enter clearing if your choices have made a firm decision not to offer you a place. If you have just missed your requirements, there is a chance you will still be under consideration; just wait for their confirmation.

In the event that you do not get the offer you want, see if the courses you are seeking are available at other universities or if there are any other courses you are interested in your preferred university. Otherwise, you may want to consider taking a year out to re-sit exams and try your luck next year.

All MAP students should contact the MAP team. The number is 0161 306 6505 or email map@manchester.ac.uk

What if I did better than I expected?!

Your offer still holds as long as you meet the conditions. However, if you have exceeded the grades you needed for your firm choice, you may consider other courses that you did not apply for through 'adjustment' using the course search, provided they have vacancies and you meet the entry requirements. Make sure you call our clearing hotline on 17 August and have your UCAS personal ID, UCAS course code and the results with you. For more details about this, see the adjustment UCAS page.

Thinking of applying to Manchester through clearing?

If you have gone through clearing and found a course you'd like to apply to, make sure you first check you meet the entry requirements and then directly contact the University via the clearing hotline. You will need your UCAS personal ID, UCAS course code and results by your side. Keep in mind, the number of places and variety of courses all depends on numbers from clearing day. Our vacancies will be live on our clearing webpages from 6pm on Wednesday 16 August 2017, or you can browse our course vacancies through UCAS search.

How do I contact you on results day?

The clearing hotline is available to call from 7:30am-5:30pm on 0161 672 8770 on Thursday 17 August onward. Alternatively, you can go to our clearing website for more information on course availability, School contacts and more.

Got an offer through clearing/adjustment, how about accommodation?

After you've received an offer, the next step is to investigate your options for student accommodation. Applications for our hall of residence are available to all offer holders up to 31 August. For more, check out the accommodation website.

Remember that our residences are high in demand so you may not always get your first choice. Alternatively, private halls are also available. If you are thinking of living at home, you may want to check out our Living at Home Society.

Is there an Open Day for new offer holders?

If you have happily chosen The University of Manchester, you will receive an invitation by email to the clearing and adjustment open day in late August. This will be your chance to discover the campus, your academic school, see the accommodation in Fallowfield and chat with current students.

Got your grades before A-level Results Day?

If you are lucky to get your results earlier, this will give you additional research time for clearing. Remember to check the entry requirements for the courses you are considering.

As soon as you have received your results, you will be eligible to apply for clearing. If you've done your exams before or if you are a BTEC or IB student, you can also enquire about your course by contacting your school through the UCAS search.

Have more questions and want to speak to someone?
