Saving lives

Reduce deaths from AIDS by
focusing on lethal fungal diseases

Global Action Fund for Fungal Infections (GAFFI).

Please support our campaign for DFID, WHO and USAID to prioritise saving lives from AIDS. There are too many young people dying from AIDS, about 1,500,000 each year, about 50% due to fungal diseases, and 20% due to TB. The average age at death is 35 years. This is equivalent to the entire population of Leeds or Glasgow dying each year. The economic impact is huge, destroying communities and leaving many orphans. The tests for fungal diseases work well, and the antifungal drugs work most of the time, but they are not where they need to be. We could save 1,600,000 lives by improving availability to the diagnostic tests and drugs over the next 5 years. But the WHO, DFID and USAID are not focused on saving lives directly, only indirectly.
