Club Day

Sept. 21, 2015

Hundreds of students are ready to begin participating in clubs after Palo Alto High School's first Club Day of the 2015-16 school year on the Quad yesterday. Over 70 clubs were represented at the school-wide event, covering a wide array of student activities. The Parent Teacher Student Association provided free hamburgers and hot dogs, some clubs played music, and despite the brutal heat, the event went on without any major obstructions.

The Beginning of an End

Due to a newly implemented policy, students are no longer allowed to distribute candy at Club Day. In years past, clubs often offered candy as an incentive for people to sign up. Yesterday's event marked the end of a longtime tradition, as the Palo Alto Unified School District is striving to "maintain high nutritional quality of all foods made available to students while they are in school," according to the new regulation. As alternatives to candy, some clubs handed out other types of offerings, including stickers and chips.

Student Involvement

The clubs at Club Day reflected a wide variety of student interests; from ultimate frisbee to Doctor Who to American Sign Language. If you can name it, it was probably there.

New and Old

Approximately 25 new clubs at Club Day recruited their first groups of members today, including SAMoSA Club and Stress Busters Club.
