Acoustic event showcases local talent 

An acoustic event hosted at The Night Owl in Digbeth, showcased upcoming local talent on Thursday 23rd March. 

The Night Owl is known for its soul, Motown and northern soul themed events, as well as its homely atmosphere, but the alternative venue played host to a different kind of music genre last Thursday.

The acoustic event was headlined by singer songwriter James Leese, along with support acts Alex Voss and Lauren Marie, who sung their original songs as well as covers.  

Maddy McCrann- Smith who was involved in organising the event said: "Birmingham currently has such a diverse music scene and we wanted to bring local acoustic artists to The Night Owl, which is known for being a leading soul venue."

Alex Voss from Staffordshire started the evening by playing a number of his original folk songs, as well as acoustic covers of songs by artists such as The Lumineers. 

Fellow Stafford based artist James Leese, headlined the acoustic event and performed a number of his songs, which were a mix of upbeat and sad songs based around love and life experiences.

At the event the singer songwriter also decided to announce that his upcoming EP would be released in May. This will be his his second EP after releasing the Four Portrait last year and his album I Tried... in 2015.

At the event James Leese announced the release of his  upcoming EP.

He performed his own original songs including Stardust, Sixteen Times and one of his most popular songs The Nerd Song from his first first album I Tried... which he created in 2015.

At the event he said he hadn't performed the song live for a while, but the song was one of the highlights of the event, due to the crowds participation in the song which was full of popular culture references. 

James Leese said "This event was one of the biggest gigs I have played, and The Night Owl was a great venue to perform some of my new songs featured on my upcoming EP in front of fans of live music and family and friends."

James closed the gig by playing his new song Stardust from his new EP.
