Spending £1m on parks and playground equipment

What we said and what we did

We made ten pledges for the four years of this Council. We have delivered them all.

14 parks and 8 playgrounds have had improvements

Our parks and playgrounds are well-loved and well used, but saw years of neglect. Residents told us they needed better parks for their families. An investment of £1m will bring new play equipment but also smarten up our parks so they can be enjoyed to the full by residents. Already we are seeing works being completed all over the Borough, from a total redesign of Alexandra Recreation Ground, to better goals and fences being installed in Cromwell Avenue in St James.

Blagdon Park has also seen extensive works following a public consultation exercise.

There have also been works to Knollmead to improve the area and add some safety measures.

There are new playgrounds at Canbury Gardens, Latchmere, Royal Park Gate and the Elm Road Rec.

In Chessington there will be work at Woodgate Avenue playground.

There is still more to do, but so far 14 parks have been improved and 8 playgrounds fully refurbished so in this year's budget we have extended the programme so we can deliver more new playgrounds.

You can see details of the schemes on the Council website under “Parks and Playgrounds”.
