Protecting the Green Belt

What we said and what we did

Continuing to protect and make accessible the green belt

As an outer London Borough we run right up against the green belt and open countryside. Whilst the need for more housing in London grows we are working on a daily basis to protect our environment by not building on the green belt. There are plenty of brownfield sites in Kingston that can be developed for more homes and we are actively looking at ways to maximise that land to help us attract new homes and businesses.

But the green belt must also be useful and so we are working with a variety of bodies to see how we can open the green belt and make it more accessible as green open space to those that live in Kingston. Improving the Hogsmill Valley and opening up a the ancient farmland in Tolworth are all projects we continue to support and champion.
