Promoting Migrant Wellbeing and Poverty Alleviation through Skills Development

Over the course of 12 weeks from June to September 2016, a group of 25 migrants from Myanmar participated in a training programme implemented by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and its project partners. 



Funded by the Swiss Agency for Cooperation and Development, the project aims to promote access to better employment opportunities and conditions for the migrants.

THROUGH A SERIES OF MODULES, MIGRANTS WERE GIVEN INSIGHTS AND TRAINING ON THE EVERYDAY ASPECTS OF HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY.

Garment Care

Food & Beverage Preparation

Housekeeping

They were also taught useful life skills such as:

Self-Defense

First Aid

Basic English and Thai

Some theory was involved

but the bulk of activities were hands-on and interactive

The migrants were enthusiastic from
the start

and had fun along the way
