Leeds is an inspiring place to live, work and play. As we launch our very first development in the city centre we want to celebrate the people of Leeds.

Kate Worthington runs an independent boutique clothing store in the centre of Leeds. Here, she shares her story for our campaign #FlauntLeeds

"As a little girl I always wanted to customise things. I'd cut the sleeves off and add lace to it."

Kate moved to Leeds city centre from her home town Wakefield to pursue her dream of owning a clothing label. She set up Fresco in the Corn Exchange and has been following her passion for fashion ever since.

Kate's appetite for fashion started at a young age and stuck with her through her teenage years before she headed to University in Sheffield to study Criminology & Psychology. It wasn't long after graduating her true love for clothing resurfaced and she began her journey into fashion.

Kate now finds inspiration in the city. Many of her designs are based on what's current in Leeds as well as music and popular culture.

"My fashion inspiration was originally Vivienne Westwood, I just love her catwalks. Now it's Rita Ora and Rhianna, they’ve made it cool to be casual."

As well as running her own business Kate is part of a restaurant club. Every Wednesday she visits a new place to eat, and with new establishments opening all the time they're never short of a new place to try.

"Food, music and fashion all comes together, I like Zaap's in Leeds because they have great décor and street food."

"100% invest in Leeds, it's an amazing city to live in with great schools near the city centre, there's something for everyone."

Kate's shop is called Fresco. Located in the heart of the city at the Leeds Corn Exchange, one of Britain's finest Victorian buildings and a Grade 1 listed structure. Designed by Cuthbert Brodrick and completed in 1864, Leeds Corn Exchange holds tremendous significance both as an architectural masterpiece and cultural icon.
