Alexandrea Huelar shows her talent at The Crown: Live Review

The 19-year-old Alex is a self-taught singer with an impressive new single soon to be released.

It's always interesting to observe how a nice set of songs, covered by an artist with a tender voice can make everyone smile a little bit wider, and get a little more real. Right here, at this very moment. You think you are too busy to slow down? I doubt it. So do the people who were there with Alex, stealing from the moment that we like to call life and experiencing the great pleasure to enjoy this magic voice of hers.

Talented and charming Alex was performing at a recently organised Jazz & Soul Live Music event. It was held on 16 April at The Crown Birmingham, which is a social pub located in the City Centre area.

For this event, Alex performed a number of songs of different styles, as she has made a jazz or a soul cover version for each of them. Playing the piano herself as well as playing the guitar as an accompaniment to some of her covers, could only touch upon her talent and charisma.

Her thoughts about it and a simple advice to beginners who are nervous:

"I enjoyed it, it was the first time I suppose in a year that I've done a gig. Considering I didn't have enough time to practise, I think I came up with, not just a jazz set, but a pretty diverse one.

"My advice is to take a deep breath and don't forget to enjoy what you're doing. To me, getting nervous is being irrational."

Singing since the age of 6, Alex is now managing her time between working and studying, deeply dedicated to her passion.

"My plan at the moment is to work and save enough money to go travelling, visit my family across the globe and do music as a hobby at the same time."

Alexandrea describes herself as a self-taught R&B/Soul singer. The only available instrumental lesson she could take, back in time, was the clarinet which is the first instrument she learned to play. After having lessons for 2 years Alex then moved onto teaching herself a bit of piano and guitar which, combined with perfecting her outstanding voice was her main focus.

The fact that singing lessons were no longer an option, never stopped Alex's aspirations in music.

Ever wondered why Filipinos love karaoke?

What they feel about it is even more than love.  As Alex said:

"It is very much part of my native Filipino culture."

Thinking about the future

With plans to release a full album soon, this is only the start of her career. With her deep love of music that never fails to touch her heart, Alex hopes that she will keep on doing what she loves. We also hope that she will keep on captures not only our attention but also our hearts.

"Take a deep breath and don't forget to enjoy what you're doing."

And if you ask her about this very moment, and her idea of perfection, without a doubt she will think of Antiqué, the lovely island she was born in, and picture her day like this:
"On a beach, sun shining and sipping coconut."
