EARTH HOUR @SHWEDAGON

MYANMAR 

Myanmar welcomed its first large-scale celebration of Earth Hour with a lighting ceremony held at the Shwedagon Pagoda on Saturday evening.

Led in prayers by Buddhist monks, hundreds of people took to lighting 10,000 oil lamps in a symbolic act to remember lives lost to climate change events and to show how small individual acts can have a larger impact

During the event WWF-Myanmar launched its ambassador programme announcing renowned meteorologist Dr. Tun Lwin as Climate Change Ambassador

Miss Face of Beauty Myanmar 2015 and singer Chuu Sitt Han as Youth Ambassador

and popular singer-songwriter Bunny Phyoe as Earth Hour Ambassador

Over a dozen artists also joined the event, among them renowned painters and caricature artists such as Khine Thin Thar, D Yay and Thein Tun Oo,

who produced a stunning oil painting in front of the crowds.

At the same time cartoonists produced dozens of humourous and insightful cartoons on climate change

Across the city lights were switched off, in a show of solidarity with millions of people across the globe to shine a light on climate action and the potential of people to change climate change.
