Two Steps Towards Equality, a project funded by UK.

The Population Council in partnership with the Centre for Catalyzing Change (C3) India and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine with support from UKaid implemented a project 'Do Kadam Barabari Ki Ore' (Two Steps Toward Equality).

Project: Empowering women and addressing violence against women through self-help groups (SHGs)

The project is supported by the Women Development Corporation of the Government of Bihar's Department of Social Welfare to empower women, change their inequitable attitudes about women’s and men’s roles, and build women’s confidence to speak out against violence. The groups offer training in financial literacy and livelihoods, and education about women’s rights and challenging traditional gender norms.

Project: Changing attitudes and practices of boys through sports and life skills education, working with boys in Nehru Yuvak Kendra Sangathan (NYKS) youth clubs

The project comprises a mix of gender transformative life skills education and sports coaching. The life skills curriculum covers topics such as gender discrimination, notions of masculinity, and violence against women and girls. The cricket coaching and games component is intended to convey a sense of fair play, team spirit, sportsmanship.

Project: Community based intervention to change notions of masculinity and modify men's lifestyles (notably alcohol misuse)
