Here's a flashback of the major events which shaped UK-India relationship in the year 2016

GREAT Debate 2015-16 

The GREAT Debate competition is a unique opportunity to celebrate UK and India's shared culture of vibrant discussion and debate. In 2015-16 we saw participation from ten cities across India. Over 600 university and college students took part.

Young Thinkers' Conference 2016

The Young Thinkers' Conference is the British High Commission’s flagship foreign and security policy conference, which brings together the best and brightest experts and young thinkers to discuss a range of issues. This year the conference was held in New Delhi and Mohali. 

Glittering welcome to India for The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge visited India and Bhutan on a seven day tour in April. While in India they experienceed the four passions which unite the country - cricket, Bollywood, politics and family.

Chevening Alumni India Launch 

On the eve of World Environment Day, leading Chevening alumni got together at British High Commissioner's residence in Delhi to launch Chevening Alumni India Association, a registered, non-profit society. It is an association for the alumni, by the alumni, and promises to provide a platform to all 2200+ Chevening alumni in India to come together and co-create a community of like-minded individuals who are committed to shaping a better future for the coming generations.

Alok Sharma, Minister for Asia and the Pacific visits India 

Alok Sharma made India, the destination of his first official visit after being appointed UK's Minister for Asia, travelling to Delhi and Mumbai.

UK Cabinet Minister Priti Patel visits India

During her visit to India, one of her first trips abroad in her new role, the UK Secretary of State Priti Patel met with India's Minister of Finance Arun Jaitley to discuss ways in which the two governments could strengthen links between key economic institutions and centers of excellence in UK and India.

The International Trade Secretary, Liam Fox visits India 

The International Trade Secretary, Liam Fox visited the cities of New Delhi and Mumbai as he embarked on his first official visit to India after taking up his new role. He held meetings with the Indian Minister for Finance, Arun Jaitley, and the Minister for Commerce, Nirmala Sitharaman.


Red Arrows in India 

The Royal Air Force's world-renowned aerobatics team, Red Arrows visited India to perform at the Indian Air Force Day. India was the only country where the Red Arrows performed a display in two different locations as part of the 60-day tour to the Asia-Pacific and Middle East regions.

India-UK TECH Summit 2016

The UK was the partner country for the India-UK TECH Summit 2016, India's largest knowledge and technology conference and exhibition. Prime Ministers Narendra Modi and Theresa May inaugurated the summit in New Delhi on 7 November.

Prime Minister Theresa May brought with her to India a delegation of the best of British businesses from 6 to 8 November in her first bilateral visit to any country outside of Europe since taking office.
