6 ways the UK is going for a climate-friendly future

The UK is a climate change leader, but it's more than talk. We're working with industry to build a low-carbon future.

1. Using tides to power homes

Off of Scotland's coast OpenHydro is testing its Open-Centre Turbine. The goal: silently and invisibly harness the power of changing tides from the ocean floor.

2. Green can mean fast!

This is the Drayson B12/69 EV and it can go 204.185mph. That makes it the world's fastest, zero-emissions electric car. That's right... ZERO emissions.

3. Design outside the box

It might be called The Cube, but this residential building in London is anything but square. Its designers used cross laminated timber to lower its carbon footprint & reduce waste.

4. Wind it up!

This is Rhondda Cynon Taff wind farm in Wales. Its 20 turbines generate enough electricity to power over 4,250 homes each year.

5. At the front of the class

The work of the Met Office Hadley Centre goes beyond the UK. It is one of the world's leading climate change research centres.

6. Capturing carbon in Canada

Shell's Quest Carbon Capture and Storage project in Alberta will reduce carbon emissions from oil sands operations by more than one million tonnes a year, permanently storing the pollution deep underground.

Climate change is a serious challenge that transcends borders. That's why the UK will join other countries, like Canada, at the Paris climate summit this December.

Tackling climate change requires international cooperation, innovative thinking, and bold action.
