Writing on the Wall

Going #AboveTheNorm

As we prepare to go #AbovetheNorm, peer through the past // explore the versatile character of Norman Hall

Through the 13th street tunnel, annexed from the hectic bustle of the main campus resides Norman Hall. Though it was once the original location of P.K. Yonge Developmental Research School, Norman was embraced as part of the University of Florida campus more than 60 years ago and has proven to be an important destination on campus.

Students who have roamed the brick hallways in search of their class have found more than they intended, with Norman offering a home away from home. The library has become an important hub for students seeking a fresh quiet throughout the semester, with Norman offering a quiet escape and change of scenery from main campus.

The winding staircases and brick hallways and the shaded courtyard have charmed students and faculty for more than 60 years. The spirit of Norman is especially apparent in the details, with figures and plaques etched into stone, solidifying the pursuit of knowledge as its mission since the beginning.

Developing into a character of its own, Norman Hall strikes a chord in the hearts of the EduGator Alumni who spent many years in the building, dedicated to the art of education. Norman Hall has been steadfast in its influence on learning for all who have visited.

We can literally see the writing on the wall

A few students have begun to share both their anticipation for the upcoming building rehabilitation project and their love for Norman Hall by leaving thoughtful notes to Norman (in approved areas, of course):

As the College of Education pushes forth transformative initiatives for education, Normal Hall follows suit with a transformation of its own. This is where we begin a new story, a new journey for learning. We are going #AbovetheNorm. With help from students and lawmakers, Norman is undergoing an extensive renovation to establish a place where all students can flourish and become limitless.
