Driffield Embraces Tour De Yorkshire Madness

A look at the events from this years visit from the iconic cycle race.

Tour de Yorkshire fever descended on Driffield, with thousands turning out to welcome the riders as they passed through the East Yorkshire town.

Preparations began weeks ago, with dozens of bikes painted blue and yellow appearing across Driffield as the town prepared to welcome the riders.

Local businesses embraced the event, with the bikes appearing on top of a number of shops and hotels in the town centre in the lead up to the race.

The town made headlines for its welcome banners that were hung around the town, which confused some Driffield residents.

On the day, there was a carnival atmosphere that circulated the town, with mascots greeting locals.

Before the cyclists reached the town, the police motorbikes swept through.

After the police had swept through, one rider stood out from the pack, with the crowds applauding the front runner.

The main body of riders then entered the main street, greeted by rapturous applause and cheering.

The cyclists then headed to Kirkburn, leaving the town. If this year was anything to go by, future rides through Driffield for the race will be well received.
