The history of
the PGA Cup

A look back at
previous highs for the
GB & Ireland team...

America's Pinehurst course
hosted the first PGA Cup tie in 1973, which GB&I lost 13-3.

GB&I's first significant impact on the event came four years later at Mission Hills in California.

The visitors battled back on the final day in the singles to force a 8 ½-8 ½ draw.

In 1978 GB&I recorded their first ever PGA Cup victory thanks to a 10½-6½ win at St Mellion.

GB&I recorded another win in 1979 at Castletown.

David Huish and Peter Butler
were undefeated in their three outings as GB&I stormed to a comfortable 12½-4½ win.

PGA Cup appearances and
was captain in 1988. He set
a record of 18 wins that still
stands today.

GB&I produced one of their best performances in America at Turnberry Isle, Florida in 1981.

The visitors came from three points down on the final day to draw 10½ points each.

GB&I claimed back-to-back wins over America in Scotland in 1983 and 1984.

America won the next five contests in a row before an epic battle at Gleneagles ended 13-13 in 1996.

GB&I's first win over America
in 21 years came at Ireland's K Club in 2005.

Darren Parris
won all five of
his matches
as the hosts
stormed to a
15-11 victory.

In 2013 it looked as though America would claim a fourth consecutive PGA Cup win at
De Vere Slaley Hall.

GB&I were 5 points down heading into the final day, but the hosts won the singles to tie 13-13.

History was made two years ago when GB & Ireland won for the first time in America.

Lead by Jon Bevan, GB&I
claimed an historic win at CordeValle in California.

This year GB & Ireland will be looking to claim back-to-back wins over America at Foxhills Resort.
