How to use social media as a platform to promote yourself

Market yourself as a brand

Know Your Audience

The most important factor in marketing yourself is knowing who your audience is and their needs. Once you identify a target demographic, do as much research as possible. Then make a plan based on your data collections of how you're going to appeal to your audience.

Twitter

This is one of the best and easiest ways you can promote yourself on social media and get your name/brand out there in the digital world

Facebook

Facebook is another social networking site that can be used to promote yourself and your achievements. While its mainly used by many to stay in touch with family and friends, its also the prefect place to share your work and gain feedback that you can later use to your advantage. Upload your professional photos, post regular updates of your work and send out professional invitations to your Facebook friends for upcoming events.

Youtube

So many people use Youtube, in fact it's the second largest search engine in the country. Since so many people visit the site it makes prefect sense that you capitalize on this platform and start your own Youtube channel. Post professional videos and share these on your other social media sites to promote your creativity.

Stay knowledgeable of your industry

Keep your eyes and ears open at all times for the latest developments and news in your industry. Technology is always evolving, so by staying two steps ahead at all times you can always be at the top of your game. Read books, newspapers, journals, blogs, websites and watch videos and podcasts. Having knowledge of your industry means you will be able to answer the right questions.

Emails

We all receive emails almost every day, so why not set up an email address that you can use for business purposes, send out email invitations to your contacts or include your Twitter handle in your email signature. This is a great way to connect your email with your twitter page and gain more followers and ideally new clients or potential employers.

Links

If you're going to post links of your work on social media that is a great way to gain some attention. However don't just send a link and expect people to click on it. You need to advertise the link i.e. make people want to click on it and see your best work. Post the URL to your work with a short description promoting your work or sharing your thoughts. Provide a back story so the readers understand and hopefully relate to your examples of work.

Multimedia

Visuals are the way forward, this is because an image is more likely to stick in someone's mind longer than words ever will. You should dress up your posts with interesting and eye catching visuals that will make the reader want to click on it. Add videos, images, animation, audio, or graphics to your work to make it more visual entertaining.

Timing

You don't want to overwhelm your readers or followers with too much information to soon. Find a balance that works for you and your followers and space out the rollout of your work to the public. You don't want people to lose interest in your work, your can do this by researching the analytics of your followers on the social media platforms your using to promote your best work and achievements.
