'Rise to the top with Apprenticeships' - it's time for you to get involved - here's why ...

The theme of this year's National Apprenticeship Week (14 to 18 March 2016) will be highlighting that, "An apprenticeship can take you anywhere", with a particular focus on higher skills to show how young people, entrepreneurs and businesses can “rise to the top” through traineeships and apprenticeships.

Yesterday an apprentice on our IT Tech Industry Gold apprenticeship programme told me his story and it completely resonates with this theme. Dale has achieved so much in the past 3 years with his employer, and has developed his professional experience, personal development and qualifications - all achieved via an apprenticeship:

"During school people were always telling me to go to university to get my qualifications and that it was the only way to get into work in the current economic climate. However, university was never for me and thought I would explore what other avenues I had available.

Even from the first interview I had with TDM I knew this was a company willing to help people develop and achieve their full potential. They helped me find a placement of work and I've been there ever since. I started with the Level 2 and I'm now working on my Level 4.
During this time TDM and their staff have been as helpful as they can in aiding my development and the study weeks they provide have been excellent. I have gained so much: knowledge, experience, certifications and qualifications too that will help me improve and become a better professional in the IT industry."

There has never been a better time to employ an apprentice, or start an apprenticeship.

1. Some of the country's top employers are offering work experience, traineeships and apprenticeships to help give young people the best start in their career.

2. Almost 9 out of every 10 apprenticeship employers hoping to achieve business benefits tell us that apprenticeships deliver – including 89% reporting that it has helped their business improve the quality of their product or service.

3. A quarter of former apprentices had received a promotion (23%) within 12 months of finishing, and for intermediate and advance apprentices, three quarters reported taking on more responsibility in their job after completing their apprenticeship.
