It's playtime at Shorthand. Introducing our demo area!

See how easy it is to create a media-rich, interactive story in Shorthand, with our new demo area

We often talk about how easy it is to create beautiful, multimedia stories in Shorthand, the visual storytelling tool used by organisations including the BBC, Hearst Magazines and the Guardian (see more on our Pinterest board). But we wanted you to be able to see that for yourself. So we're pleased to introduce...

So if you'd like to get a taste of what Shorthand – our tool for teams and organisations who want to create and self-host media-rich, interactive stories – has to offer, you can now jump straight into the editor, and start creating a sample story.

In the demo area you can try out most of the features, including an array of section types to populate with your own images, text and video, as well as options to create interactive and animated media and the ability to build a story navigation menu. Use the Story Preview to check the experience on mobile, and show colleagues what you've created so far.

You will also see how it's possible to integrate social media sharing and analytics in the editor. Not all features are available in the demo area, such as our custom Javascript tool, and there's no publishing of the story either – but if it's something you'd like to explore further, simply get in touch via our website to find out how to set up an account.

So why not jump in right now, and start playing? Access the demo area directly here, or via our website. And we'd love to hear what you think so please do send us any feedback. Or email just to say hello. That's always nice too!
