Over the past few months, the Southern African Wildlife College's African Field Ranger Training Services Division has been involved in several training interventions.
Most noteworthy was the new Maritime Field Ranger course, which was presented in Mozambique, at Inhaca Island.
This was the first of its kind with field rangers being exposed to the tactical application of boats and how to counter sea-borne poachers.
The training intervention took place over three weeks and was presented by Wouter Combrinck, Bruno Gomes and Calvin Kipling.
This allowed for the trainees to get the necessary practical exposure at sea by doing the required drills, which will counter poaching and help save their lives in tactical conditions.
The training focused on the development of individuals allowing them to tactically apply the skills learnt against maritime poachers whilst also helping to rescue targeted species such as turtles.
