IFAW awards substantial grant to the Southern African Wildlife College in support of its canine training capability

This three year grant from the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) will help capacitate the College's K9 unit, to help counter poaching.

Dr. Joseph Okori, IFAW's Regional Director Southern Africa - Landscape and Conservation Programme: "There is no doubt that this is an effective addition to the bouquet of tactics law enforcers can employ."

"This canine capability is successfully being used to support field rangers and wildlife law enforcement officers to track, apprehend and arrest poachers."

Theresa Sowry, SAWC CEO: "With the support of donors such as IFAW, we have been able to move forward with this critical project."

"Coupled with aerial support and assistance from the community, inroads are being made into the rhino poaching crisis, specifically in areas were this four-tiered approach is being deployed."

This valued grant from IFAW will also enable the highest possible standards and best practices for the welfare of the dogs working in the service of wildlife conservation at the College.
