DEVELOPING YOUR PERSONAL STATEMENT
All colleges will ask you to write a short Personal Statement on your application. You need to take some time and effort over this. Although it may only be 300 or 400 words long, you have a lot to cram in! Your Personal Statement should include answers to the following questions:
- Why do you want to apply for the course - what are your career plans?
- What experiences do you have?
- What are your skills and personal qualities?
- What are your personal interests?
Why you want to apply for the course: State positively why you are interested β a career ambition, a passion to start a business, a plan to go to university.
What experiences you have: Buddying a younger pupil, coaching a school team, singing in the school show β all of these experiences can show that you are dynamic, committed, skilled and a good team player. Also include any volunteering or part-time work. You wrote a list of your experiences in the previous section - refer to this list to remind you what to add to your personal statement.
Your skills and personal qualities: You need to be very positive about the things you are good at, and the strongest parts of your personality. Say very clearly what your best attributes are, and give examples.
