Recycling old clothes into new fashions

Production worker, Abbey Green, hopes to pursue a career in design as her hobby became a passion.

The 20-year-old from Gateshead started recycling her old clothes and turning them into brand new fashions.

Making mood boards and collages helps Abbey collate the latest fashions in order to help with her designs.

One summer the Geordie brunette decided that recycling an old pair of jeans and turning them into a cute pair of shorts would be more beneficial than spending a fortune on a new summer wardrobe; and little did she know she would turn some heads and receive some compliments.

According to Wrap the value of unused clothing in wardrobes has been estimated at around £30 billion. It is also estimated £140 million worth of clothing goes into landfill each year.

Instead of throwing away that old t-shirt why not try and see if you can turn it into something new? Perhaps a new crop top to wear with some jeans? Or why not cut off the arms and make it into a new gym top? Either way you'll be helping the environment and saving yourself some pennies.

Abbey hopes that her passion for fashion and her creative eye for design can get her into university where she hopes to start her career in design.
