From the world of pornography, a kink/fetish has emerged that is extremely popular online and has millions of devoted fans dedicating hours of their spare time watching people through their webcams or on the flip side people are spending hours of their spare time performing for viewers through their webcam.
This fetish is known as webcamming, and the people performing for viewers are known as webcam performers. I have managed to catch up with a variety of webcam models to find out about their experiences, attitudes and why they chose to take up webcam modelling.
The first person to speak to me about their webcam modelling fetish was a woman called Charlotte Burton, who initially explained to me what is actually meant by the Webcam Model.
"I am a webcam performer which is where I perform strip shows and sometimes sexual acts with myself and others on my webcam while people log in to watch for themselves. Some people will link their webcams up with mine and join in the show with an audience."
Webcam modelling is another one of them kinks/fetishes that certainly requires a high level of confidence from the performers themselves, to put themselves out their online for other people to watch and get pleasure from.
I also spoke to a very successful male webcam model called Griffin Barrows who spoke about his personal experience with webcam modelling and what it is about webcam modelling that he enjoys so much and encourages him to keep going back and doing it,
"I am very proud of my physique and the body I have been able to sculpt myself from strict dieting and grueling daily gym sessions, I love that through being a webcam model I can shot this off to people who clearly get themselves off to it.
I find it quite a turn on knowing that people are watching me do every day things sometimes, sometimes I might decide to do a webcam show in the shower. You never know with me."
There are now numerous websites that you can go to as a viewer to see what it is all about. The more popular sites people choose to visit are cam4.com, Chaturbate.com and two of the world's most popular pornography website redtube.com and pornhub.com now have dedicated tabs solely for webcam performers and webcam viewers.
I also managed to catch up with a couple that decided to become webcam models together and claim that it has allowed them to build a more, "stronger, sturdier and more stable relationship" they simply go by the joint name of 'Cam Couple' and can be found on cam.com and Chaturbate.com and told me about the first time they got into webcam modelling. “We got into cam modelling because as a couple we used to watch other people webcamming on cam4 and one time we decided to just give it a go and see what happens and the response we first got was great and we do at least one full show a week now.”
So many people are choosing to become webcam models in their spare time, there are currently over 115,000 different profiles on Chaturbate.com and over 100,000 different profiles set up on cam4.com people can chose to do it just for fun but some people can actually make an income out of it depending on how popular you are and how generous your viewers are, Griffin Barrows explained the process of making money through webcamming, "I appear on webcam for hundreds of people at a time and they put in requests with 'tips' that are worth money for me to do things 99 times out of 100 it is sexual activities they are asking me to do – but I don’t mind this at all! And actually, enjoy it when people are straight to the point and honest about what they want."
Charlotte Burton also explained to me that she uses webcam modelling as a money earner as well, "I'm not a performer to find a partner or a relationship I do it out of fun and also an extra income helps a lot, so much fun doing something you enjoy and getting paid for it is perfect."
The final person I spoke to about their experiences with this was a woman called Amy Christophers. Amy is a renowned Sport Journalist now and has won numerous industry awards and appeared on TV shows, the likes of, The Only Way Is Essex, Premier League Show, Soccer AM and Sex Lessons as well as numerous music videos and movies.
But, before all the success with journalism and onscreen appearances Amy was actually a page 3 model and a babestation performer.
She told me about her experience with babestation,
"I don't really publicise the fact I did Babestation as it’s such a minor thing in my whole career I’m best known for Playboy and the mags and page 3 I had a highly respected career and babestation just went in line with that, you’d be so popular the channels would be calling out for you to come and chat on the daytime to your fans as you would bring big audiences and they would offer you stupid money to come in once a week and do a show."

Amy also went on to talk about her past experience with kinks and fetishes that were involved in the line of work she was previously in, "I would often get asked to go and do fetish shoot sessions – these would include smoking, pvc, rubber, leather and whips. I never took part in these as I didn't really want to be around the fans of these fetishes, so whilst planning my yearly calendar I decided to do fetish theme calendar and included some of the most popular kinks and fetishes in it…it was one of the most popular calendars I ever did during my 10-year career in glamour as Brady Brewer."
Like stated above Amy is now a very popular and sought-after Journalist who has built up a career from her glamour model days hasn’t stopped her from going on and achieving what-ever she wants.
