Summer in Southside

Celebrating the last breath of summer

Yesterday evening, Birmingham's Southside area saw party lovers and pedestrians stopping for live performances.

Outside the Hippodrome, Summer in Southside was having a taster evening preceding this fun-filled weekend.

Breaking the ice were
Orkestra Del Sol...

...a tongue-in-cheek style band.

These Edinburgh-based musicians formed a 9-piece band whose main skill was to combine music with humour.

They were quick to entertain people with a combination of ska, funk and Balkan brass music

The band also had a sense of humour and sent one of their own through the crowd to be directed by people.

Needless to say, the band knew how to get close and personal with their audience.

The band is coming back today to perform their "Larger Than Life" street show from 11.30 AM.

Soon after came these
health and safety menaces

Paul and Pete form Skate Naked, a duo who "like to think they're funny".

After blazing in with two torches, the two showed how acrobatic they were.

We never figured out the first part of their name but saw plenty of the other.

The two were full of bad puns, especially gay ones, considering the location.

Next was the pink glove trick...

...which goes like that.

Despite everything, the two said they were merely warming up for this weekend's performances. This might sound frightening for some audiences.

The show continued with Hip-Hop performances.

This guy said he came from "Rastafa Land" and didn't shy away from showing his moves.

The shows repeated in the Arcadian venue.

Summer in Southside continues on the 29 and 30th of August at the Birmingham Hippodrome, Arcadian as well as Hurst and Inge streets.

Here's the schedule. See you there!
