Street kitchen in Sutton Coldfield

Boldmere Deli invites people for street food

On Friday the 4th of September, The Deli in Boldmere Road invited people to come and have a taste of delicious food offerings right on the street.

The Sutton Coldfield restaurant invited several street food operators to come and fill the plates of hungry customers.

Outside the Deli there were plenty of  customers coming to enjoy a pleasant Friday evening.

A queue formed quickly.

"Saying you just want to sell nice food doesn't necessarily mean a great business. You have to adapt to the market." says Pippa Goode.

She is the owner of the Deli. Four years ago, a chat over a bottle of wine gave her the idea for the business. The rest was relentless hard work.

Pippa Goode, the prowd  owner of The Deli in Boldmere.

The Deli invited three street food operators. The Boxfood Caribbean served jerk chicken, goat curry and a vegetarian option while posh burgers were offered by Porky Blinders.

There was also an option for dessert which you could get from TLC Creperie serving crepes and ice cream.

Pippa Goode says what sets her Deli apart from others is the fact that it's community-driven. She's always had a passion for bringing people together and they say that's how her business has changed the street.

"Birmingham is getting a reputation for good food and we want to be part of that." says Pippa Goode

She also said it's important to start small.

The first street kitchen they held was in July. It was important for the street food operators to be happy so the Deli's reputation would build.

There are plans to roll out more of these events. Pippa says "people have a great appetite for good food" and that they want to socialize while they're at it.

"Street food appeals to all ages, that's what’s so good about it."

The event lasted from 5.30 PM until late night at 10.

You can watch out for future events by keeping an eye on the deli's Twitter.
