In July 2017 we met at Rathbone Greenbank Investments in Finsbury Circus, for a dynamic evening of live crowdfunding
First to pitch was MAITS, who raised over £6900 to reduce infant and child mortality and improve the life expectancy of children with cerebral palsy, premature babies and those with feeding difficulties in Rwanda, by teaching simple, life-saving feeding techniques to 22 hospital staff in 2 districts.
One year later, MAITS have exceeded their own expectations, teaching 60 hospital staff in 5 districts, affecting 535 mothers and babies, and training others to teach
Next to pitch was London Village Network, who raised over £9100 to create a Social App to offer a platform of support to improve livelihoods and opportunities for young people from disadvantaged backgrounds through local volunteering.
Since pitching, London Village Network has connected professional adults and 45 disadvantaged youth to grow and learn through professional development.
Third to pitch was MADaboutART, who raised over £5400 to reduce the vulnerabilities of girls and young women to HIV infection in Cape Town by providing information, tackling complex gender inequalities and promoting financial empowerment.
The project reached 200 vulnerable teenage girls aiming to reduce HIV-risk through education, open dialogue and empowerment strategies.
Last to pitch was Bread and Roses, who raised over £8600 to run a floristry training programme for 6 unemployed refugee women, to provide them with practical language and employment skills to improve their changes at gaining meaningful employment.
Bread & Roses worked with three women from Eritrea, two from Syria and one from the Democratic Republic of Congo. All of the women learned valuable skills in employment and improved their English language skills.
