Little Reckless Hands

The fleeting childhood

Weekly Photo Challenge : Evanescent

All the photos were taken during my trip to different villages of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, India (January 2017) while covering various aspects of deprivation and development in rural India.

As I entered the Zila Parishad Pradhan Vidyalaya (District Council Primary School) in Puluru village of Telangana, I saw the little hands busy in craftwork, mostly paper mache, heard those tiny souls squabbling, some of them just clueless, biting their nails looking at the teacher, while some looking at their books as deep as they could, some just rattling with their pencils, while some swinging around in the small playground. As the bright sky cast a brilliant noon sunlight onto the dark muddy ground, some of them were just wandering around barefoot on that feet burning land.

I wanted to talk to these children who were busy exploring the surprises that childhood brings, given that their surprises and lives were far different than the children of urban areas.

Remember those beautiful days of childhood, when before going out to play, all your mother would tell you was to not to play in the sand and get dirty, not to talk to strangers, not to indulge in any mischief, not to eat anything unhealthy and so on.

Remember all those days which were full of life without any stress about the demanding future, time that wouldn't bring in front any such thing like making a successful career, when the only wait was for your father to get back home at night and tell him stories about your day, when you could share your every belonging because then even if it never came back, you knew you might just find something else equally amazing, when all the broken things were only your knees and toys, when all you did was to find ways of living, making yourself happy, exploring something new everyday.

Childhood is a fleeting beauty that teaches you to be as reckless as you want to, but deceiving as well, because it doesn't welcome the struggle of the life. You just aim to live in that beautiful period.
