Notting Hill Carnival
2017

London, UK

Hello there !

Welcome to my new Shorthand Social.

I went on a spontaneous trip to London with #eurostar. Why, you ask ? For one of London's crazier moment of the year, Europe's biggest street festival,

Notting Hill Carnival

This year, Notting Hill Carnival took place on the 27th of 28th of August and gathered about two millions of attendees ! Only Rio has a bigger carnival. That is huge and also amazing the British city can connect all people with outdoor live music, tasty food, nice drinks and celebrate London's Caribbean communities in that way since 1964.

This travelogue gathers the best pictures I took of this very famous family friendly day (Sunday 27th August 2017) in Notting Hill, West London.

A very nice and warm day to celebrate ! (26° C)

We remember Grenfell ...

Notting Hill Carnival paid tribute to Grenfell Tower victims of the tragic fire that occurred last June in London. Survivors and residents were joined by Sadiq Khan (mayor) at multi-faith prayer, with doves released as mark of respect for victims.

"Today, carnival is for you. Set aside your sadness and worries, smile, dance and sing along. And we will have the most wonderful, musical, colourful and lovable carnival ever. Remember you are the Grenfell generation, and you are special."

2017 pineapple trend is limitless !

Streets of London look special during a street festival !

Music spirit, ALWAYS

Community Churches are also part of the show !

Family goals

Business is business !

mouth-watering Caribbean cuisine & fresh drinks

The hundreds of food stalls at Notting Hill Carnival are as important to the Carnival experience as sound systems, coconut shell cocktails, pineapple juice and drums ! There's no way you can turn down a tray of jerk chicken, but if you're feeling adventurous you can also sample a portion of goat curry. Most of the stalls serve up corn or jerk chicken with fried plantain, coleslaw and rice and peas.

Yum yum
